Hello and welcome to The Nappy Lady. Staffed entirely by mums, mostly with young children, we have been selling real nappies (also known as washable nappies, cloth nappies and reusable nappies) and offering free cloth nappy advice for almost a decade now. Think of us as the modern equivalent of washable nappy "garden fence advice" that our own mothers had easy access to.

... which includes anything not real nappy related that I feel like adding in.

Every page of the site has a link at the bottom to the Site Map if you get lost at all.

Let me just stress that our job at The Nappy Lady is not to persuade you to use cloth nappies. You won't find emotive arguments to that effect on this site.

Our job, once you have already decided to use washable nappies (sometimes known as reusable nappies, real nappies or cloth nappies), is to help you make the best choice for your situation. That's why we encourage you to make use of our free nappy advice service.

You'll either like the tone of the site or you won't. I'm afraid I'm a bit bossy and prone to wordiness, but I also like a bit of a laugh.

As for finding your way around, there are buttons on every page, there's a search facility and - if all else fails - you can use the back button on your browser.

Now this is the serious bit, explaining why The Nappy Lady site and our famous washable nappy advice service exist...

Most people know something about the environmental cost of using disposable nappies, or at least about the landfill problems associated with throwing them away. But then they think that real nappies are old fashioned terry squares, with complicated terryfolds and pins. It's enough to put anyone off cloth nappies.

A few determined ones dig through the parenting magazines and the internet to find out that modern cloth nappies are nothing like the terries our mothers used. They are often shaped like disposable nappies and fasten with velcro, poppers or nifty little grips called Nappi Nippas. There are so many different brands of nappies as well. Motherease, Tots Bots, Bumgenius, Bambinex, Easy Peasy, Onelife Ella's House, Fuzzi Bunz, Proraps, the list goes on.

And even within that list, there are lots of options. With Tots Bots nappies, you have the choice of classic Cotton Tots, Bamboozles, Flexitots, EasyFit, Fluffles. With Motherease, there's the OneSize, the Multifit, the Sandy's. Easy Peasy have the Bumble, the Bimble, the Bambeasy, even the Eco Bumble. We haven't even talked about flat nappies yet: terries, prefolds, muslins, tie-ons.

That's when it all becomes a bit of a minefield. With so much choice of fundamentally different types of reusable nappies, where do you start? It's an expensive decision to get wrong, and who do you ask for help? The chances are, all your friends have used disposable nappies, and think you're mad even to consider using washable cloth nappies. They think reusable washable nappies = hard work, though they couldn't be more wrong.

Put it this way, no-one loves disposable nappies. They may or may not feel guilty about using them, but disposable nappies are a necessary evil rather than something you want your child to wear. On the other hand, I could introduce you to hundreds of families who really love their cotton nappies. All I can suggest is that you find out why by trying reusable cloth nappies for yourself.

It’s not just the fact that you can save a lot of money, or help protect the environment, or the fact that your child is wearing something reliable at last. They just love their reusable nappies. I can’t explain it, it’s just true!

Anyway, that's where this site comes in, so click on the links to find out more.....
