Nappy Overview

Little Lamb Cotton nappies are made of standard cotton. They are white, soft and very absorbent. Many nappy manufacturers have been moving away from cotton in the last few years as bamboo fabric is more absorbent. However cotton is still ideal for nappies and has been used for many generations cotton is also far quicker drying than bamboo. The only drawback to cotton nappies is that the cotton will go harder over time like bathroom towels if they aren’t occasionally tumble dried to 'fluff' them up. The soft liner inside the nappy will always keep the layer next to babies skin soft though so don’t let this put you off. Little Lambs are also a fantastic price for a sized nappy system.

Sizing

The fit of the Little Lamb has been altered and offers a fantastic fitting nappy. The leg is tight enough to prevent leaks but not too tight to create any chaffing. They use the softest elastic that is gentle on baby’s skin but is robust enough to last. The waist is also elasticated to help contain any explosions.

Little Lamb Cotton currently comes in two sizes. Size 1 fits 7-18lbs and Size 2 fits 18-35lbs. Each nappy comes with a double layer cotton booster to increase absorbency further. This is loose in the size 1 nappy so the nappy can be made slimmer for a newborn but the booster is sewn into the size 2.

The Little Lamb nappy is an average length nappy and if your baby is tall or has the potential to be tall, this might not be the nappy for you unless you’re happy that you might have to buy all three sizes (size 3 available in bamboo).

How do I use it?

All Little Lamb nappies fasten with Velcro making them extremely simple to use. The tabs on all the Little Lamb shaped nappies have a crossover tab at the waist so the nappy can be made a tighter fit for a smaller baby.

There are laundry tabs inside each nappy which are designed to secure the tabs before the nappy goes into the bucket or washing machine. This prevents the velcro picking up fluff in the washing machine and makes the velcro long lasting.

This booster is an integral part of the nappy and you will need an additional booster for night time. The Little Lamb cotton comes with a fleece liner so you don’t need to buy fleece liners separately. You can of course use disposables paper liners instead if you prefer.

Nappy Fabric

Made from cotton with a soft liner inside the nappy which will keep the layer next to babies skin soft. Little Lamb nappies are also available in bamboo. Like all Little Lamb nappies the cotton is knitted onto the nappy base rather than weaved| to ensure it doesn’t shrink.

Little Lamb Care Guide

Store dirty nappies in the nappy pail, separating any washable boosters, inserts or liners and closing the Velcro tabs over on themselves.  When you have a load ready, put them in the washer on a 30˚ wash with half the recommended dose of detergent, give them an extra rinse and air dry. That's all there is to it.

Here are a few tips:

- Dry pail the nappies.
- Soiled nappies should be washed regularly. Do not leave soiled nappies for longer than three days.
- Check the Velcro tabs are closed tightly on the nappies. Wash the wraps with the velcro closed but inside out. Boosters and inserts are best removed from pocket nappies prior to washing.
- We advise washing at 30˚.

The above is all most parents need to know but for the few parents who need it we've included the sum of our knowledge below:

Detergent: In our opinion powder detergents dissolve quicker and rinse better leading to cleaner laundry.

Dosage: We advise starting with half the recommended dose of detergent for the load size and water hardness and working up from there. The amount of detergent needed is dependent on load size, machine type and water hardness. Soft water needs less detergent to be effective and hard water needs more - possibly up to a full recommended dose.

Fabric softener: Do not use fabric softener in your nappy wash - it will coat the fibres and inhibit absorption.

Sanitisers: We do not recommend using sanitisers with your nappy wash. Sanitisers will affect the elastic and Velcro components and shorten the life of your nappies.

Drying: Drying nappies in direct sunshine is best. Placing them by, but not touching, a heat source is effective but do not place them directly on radiators as they may scorch. Avoid using a tumble drier where possible; if you do use a tumble dryer make sure it's on the low heat setting. Do not tumble dry wraps or pocket nappies.

Little Lamb Warranty

All Little Lamb products are guaranteed against manufacturing defects for 6 months from purchase, as long as care guidelines have been followed.

Use of the following will void warranty:

  • Nappy sanitisers (Napisan etc.)
  • Bleach, bleaching products (Oxy 10, vanish etc.)
  • Vinegar.
  • Washing soda, borax or bicarbonate of Soda.
  • Fabric softener.
  • Limescale removing  products (Calgon etc)
  • Dishwasher tablets.
  • Ecover, feedback of poor results, difficult to rinse thoroughly leaving residue and causing issues.

Little Lamb's decision on any warranty claim is final.

Good but bulky
Rating:
06 October 2021  |

Good brand, I have a few of these now. It seems to me that they still take the same time to dry as the bamboo ones, and feel a bit more rough than bamboo once washed. They are bulky but do their job. I use them for day time as I had to switch from pocket nappies which were recently constantly leaking. I haven't had any issues with LL and the discount is great to build a stash. I highly reccomend them.

Excellent (but tumble dry occasionally)

We love these nappies- so easy to use and they wash really well. Whole heartedly recommend but they do benefit from the occasional tumble dry. We normally dry outside on the line but they got a bit rough for little bottoms.

Made from 90% cotton and 10% microfibre
Rating:
20 January 2021  |

I bought the cotton nappies, they look great. I washed them but then saw the label, where it states 90% cotton and 10% microfibre, therefore I didn't use them, as I prefer not to use microfibre-containing products for environmental reasons. Maybe this could be amended on the description. But they did look lovely and was a shame I couldn't use them.

Response:

There is a degree of polyester in most nappies due to elastics, the velcro fastening and the weave that holds the fibres in place. The main absorbency will be cotton. If you d like pure cotton there are only a few options and these tend to be flat nappies. Drop us an email and we ll happily find a nappy as close to your requirements.

Great choice for our night time nappy
Rating:
26 November 2019  |

Off of recommendation from Nappy Lady we went for little lambs with Staydry booster to see our little one through the night and we are so pleased with the result. At the moment she is only 6 weeks so still getting up during the night so I will change once but I've had the nappy on her for 6+ hours and no seeps or mess and it holds a lot of her pee - so its ideal to keep bum dry during the night (used in conjunction with the Staydry booster- which is another fab product). Because it's designed to absorb a lot of liquid it is bulk (which I find ok for night time) and I just bought a pack of the vest extenders so her vests fit round the nappy well. Would recommend this product to anyone!

Good nappy for light wetter at night
Rating:
13 November 2019  |

I use the microfiber version of this for the day time on my LO but the cotton ones have been good for night, though she is a heavy wetter and we need a booster and for the night time.

They also come up shorter than I expected compared to the microfiber ones so needed to change to the next size up sooner than anticipated.

This is a great nappy. I have the bamboo version and I love those too (a little more slime line and a little more absorbent) but these are soft and fluffy. Wash well and dries faster than the bamboo. At night I pair with one or 2 bamboo boosters, LL wrap and no leaks and a happy baby. I don’t need to change during the night! These nappies are keeping up with my 8 month old as she get bigger and wigglier. Highly recommend these nappies. They are budget friendly too

Very bulky!
Rating:
31 May 2019  |

We found these to be far too bulky for using in the day. We would have had to go up at least one clothing size to get trousers round them. We have been using them overnight though and they are great. We've had a couple of leaks but I think that's because we've not done them up quite right enough when doing night time nappy changes.

Excellent night nappy

BOught for my nearly 4 year old daughter as her other cloth nappies are getting a bit small and she still needs nappies at night. She gets upset if she doesn't have her cloth nappy on at bedtime. These are comfy, soft, stretch to fit and very absorbent no wet pyjamas wearing these combined with a motherease wrap. They take ages to dry though. Great value will order more.

Our favorite nappies
Rating:

These have been the best nappies for us, very absorbent and leak-free with an outer wrap. We use these with the Motherease wraps with the poppers and have never had a leak in 5 months. Also, customer service is great. Had a problem with my PayPal one day and they helped me get my order through, very pleased all around.

Cotton little lamb- great night nappy
Rating:
04 February 2019  |

Personally I've tried all three types of little lamb and I'm a fan as they fit great and really easy to use, no leaks and absorbant.
However I prefer the bamboo over these, I'm in a hard water area and the cotton nappy comes out too hard and quite bulky for me.

Too small
Rating:
31 January 2019  |

I have been using Totsbots nappies from birth, and really like them. These were the closest thing, so I bought some to add to my stash, to avoid running out. They were on the small side even when she was one month, but now they barely fit. And personally, I prefer the liner/ booster attached so I don't have to hunt for it.

Good

09 January 2019  |

I bought a mixture of microfibre and cotton little lambs with little lamb wrap because they seemed good value and easy to use. I wish I had got a mixture of nappies in hindsight as my boy has ended up being quite long and chunky so I found at 4 months he's nearly outgrown these especially the cotton. They go quite crispy feeling quite quickly (but this hasn't bothered him). They've been great as a nighttime nappy but again I think he's out wetting them now as we are getting leaks even with a booster and a motherease wrap. Also the Velcro has worn pretty fast on all the range. Poppers are definitely the way forward for me! So value wise have not lasted as long as I'd hoped. But otherwise a good nappy for the price as a start with cloth. If your starting with cloth I'd say try before you buy or get a small selection of different nappies once your baby arrives, before committing to a full kit of one brand!

Great value nappy
Rating:
16 March 2018  |

We have both cotton and bamboo little lambs and they fit my 2 year old perfectly. Very absorbent and comfortable. I don't use the liner that comes with the nappy as although it's soft it doesn't keep my son dry like other liners we have, but apart from that they are great for day or night (with a booster). Very good value for money. A little bulky but I like the big bum look!

Velcro laundry tabs do NOT stay fastened!
Rating:
14 November 2017  |

I purchased 5 of these to use as nighttime nappies (with the daytime ones being the microfibre). The Velcro laundry tabs come undone in the wash and stick to another part of the nappy or other nappies. I have to unstick them to hang them dry. I pop these in the dryer for about 15 minutes after they are dry to soften the cotton a bit and the tabs come undone again so I have to pull them apart again. I find it very irritating. I would not buy these again. I prefer Motherease Sandy's which fasten with snaps.

Excellent Value
Rating:
11 September 2017  |

These are a great value, they hold a high volume day or night (with a booster). While the bamboo ones have a bit higher capacity (and stay softer in hard water), these dry more quickly, I would say 12-24 hours, depending on weather/room temperature (but not as fast as the microfibre), so good if you need a faster turnover than you can get from bamboo.

Fluffy, absorbent, quick drying
Rating:
18 July 2016  |

These were recommended for me by The Nappy Lady having completed the questionnaire. They are excellent & suit our washing & drying cycle.

I'm using both cotton & bamboo nappies & much prefer cotton as they dry quicker. If you use bamboo I'd estimate you need more, unless you don't mind washing daily.

It's great to be supporting a British company in Little Lambs!

Poor fit on long baby
Rating:
18 May 2015  |

These are really bulky on newborn and not the best fit for tall baby (size 1 is too short for my 12lbs boy). I was tempted with the idea of using natural fabric but the nappy is so harsh that it cries for tumble drying. I also have Microfibre version which is much softer but less absorbant (same issue with fitting long baby).

A good buy (great if you have a drier)

31 March 2015  |

Very hndy for nappy changes while out & about. The simplicity of the disposable style of nappy, but washable!
Only main downside is that without a tumble drier, the. cotton becomes very stiff/rough.
It does dry fairly quickly if placed by a heater.
I also found that it didn't fit to the upper weight on our tall baby, but otherwise very happy

Wish I had a tumble drier...
Rating:
26 November 2014  |

Unlike the microfibre, these do not come out of the machine nice and soft, but end up crunchy like my towels But the liners are microfibre anyway so the bit against her bum is nice and soft, and we only use these at night.

These are really amazingly absorbent, especially with the cotton booster.

I do seem to be having a problem with the laundry tabs though; I dutifully fold in the laundry tabs on all my nappies but for some reason the ones on the cotton nappies get unstuck in the machine. The tabs on the microfibre ones stay stuck down so I have no idea why this is happening. Also, the softy side of the velcro has started felting up, which is weird. Again, the microfibres' velcro is fine.

If the microfibres were absorbent enough for night time I probably wouldn't want the cotton. But then, maybe if I had a tumble drier I wouldn't want the microfibre.

workhorse nappy
Rating:
07 October 2014  |

We have a mix of these and the bamboo. The bamboo is more absorbent and stays softer in the wash. However, it wouldn't be practical for us to use all bamboo because it takes over a day to dry. Also, I prefer cotton for hot weather.

These are more economical than other fitted nappies - not much more expensive than flats, and they come with a free liner. I also think they're the best size 1 (that I've come across) because a lot of the size 1s don't last very long, not because they stop fitting, but because they're not absorbent enough when baby starts doing serious amounts of pee at about 2/3 months. With these you just add the insert at that point and can use them for another 3-4 months (though not quite up to the weight advertised - my baby outgrew them at 14 pounds, but she's quite long).

Fitted are actually less versatile than flats as you can't choose where the most absorbency is by using the girl of boy fold (my little girl tends to soak the back of the nappy while the front is still dry). However, you can't rely on always being motivated enough to fold, so I would get some of these as well.

The other problem is the bulk. These nappies aren't as slim as some of the other fitteds like tots bots stretchies. But is that really a problem? Isn't that why you're using cloth - for that cute big cloth nappy bum? lol! It's only the really expensive clothes that it won't fit under.

I would only use these nappies during the day. I use bamboo at night.

I've been using these size 3 nappies for a few weeks now and am very happy with them. I use them mainly at night but sometimes for a longer spell in the day (naps/journeys) as they are really absorbent. They obviously take a while to line dry but not as long as bamboo nappies - around 24hours hung up inside in a not particularly warm room, plus a bit of time in the airing cupboard. I usually use the airflow XL wrap at night, although any large wrap will fit over it, the Blueberry is particularly good. It is fairly bulky but not ridiculously so.

13 August 2014  |

I use these at night and the microfiber during the day. They need an extra booster to work effectively but with this I get no leaks even when worn for 12 hours. My little one is quite petite and tho they fit well are very bulky so wouldn't want to wear during the day. Drying time is good, a day on the line or one tumble dry, occasionally the elastic leg part can still be a bit damp but they are much better than the bamboo which took forever and a day!

Great day time nappy
Rating:
21 July 2014  |

We have been using our Little Lambs Cotton nappies for the past four month, since birth. They are a great day time nappy (we prefer the Little Lamb Bamboo or Tots Bots Bamboozle for night now - they are more absorbent for us now she sleeps through the night). We are very happy with the two-part (nappy and wrap) system and prefer it to a pop-in system as she is a heavy wetter and we have had no leaks (of the poo or wee variety) with Little Lambs. They are slow drying, but we expected that and bought a few extra so we could have some drying while others are in our stash waiting to be used. Even though they do harden a little like towels in hard water the fleece liner has maintained its super softness and feels comfy against our little one's skin. We have noticed that when we do use disposables (if traveling) her bottoms goes red very quickly, we have never had this problem when wearing Little Lambs

I've only been using these just over 3 weeks on my baby. They take quite a bit longer to dry than the microfibre ones, but are much better for absorbency so I use these at night and microfibre ones during the day. Using these at night I am using boosters to keep my baby dry longer, and because of this I'm not sure if they will fit up to the weight range they're supposed to, as the nappies are a little short (although my daughter isn't that long the boosters pad them out quite a bit, so I think I might need to go up to the next size of these before I need to go up with the microfibres). They wash well and come out the machine very clean.

I bought these on the Nappylady's recommendation, to use at night (using the microfibre in the day).
They are really easy to put on, and very absorbent. They are quite bulky but as we only use them at night it's not really a problem. They take longer to dry than the Microfibre, but as long as you're organised that's okay. They do seem too stain more than the Microfibre too, but the stains magically disappear if you hang them outside on the washing line.

I purchased 20 of these nappies on offer, they are truly brilliant at containing EVERYTHING! they are very absorbent, and can last 2-3 hours with a heavy wetter. the only downside to these nappies are the bulk, they are incredibly huge on my slender baby and do restrict her a little, but this may be down to her size. if you want a slim fitting nappy this may not be the one for you, instead i purchased its older sister, LL bamboo, which is much slimmer fitting and just as absorbent.
