Hire Kit Availability

We have over 100 hire kits across our hire kit ranges however demand is incredibly high.  Our hire kits receive bookings often 8 months in advance.  At the time of writing in November 2022 some of our kits are approaching being fully booked for March 2023! To guarantee your kit of choice is available for your hire period you should aim to order by 20 weeks pregnancy.

We understand it can make parents nervous buying anything before your 12 or 20 week scan. Please be reassured if for any reason you need to cancel your hire kit BEFORE it is dispatched it will be cancelled and refunded in FULL.   Once hire kits are dispatched (approx 4-6 weeks before your due date) the hire fee will not be refunded in part or in full in any circumstances other than in cases in stillbirth/SIDS.

Hire Kits are only available for hire in the UK.

Sandys Cotton Hire Kit Costs

The Sandys Cotton hire kits cost:
£
85* hire fee + £100 deposit

On the return of the nappies the £100 deposit can either be refunded or used against a future order.
*IF you spend over £150 on other items with us you will also received an additional £30 credit from your hire fee.

Sandys Cotton Hire Kit Contents:

The Nappy Lady Sandys XS Hire Kit contains:

  • 20 Sandys XS. This should allow you to wash every day and half to two days from birth.
  • 5 XS/Small Wraps

This is enough for one baby full time.

    TWINS
If you have Twins you should need to book 2 kits, they don't have to be the same type of kit.  At time of booking add details on your order that you have two kits for twins so we can confirm the most appropriate date to book for you and we'll arrange for a 10% refund on your hire kit.

You'll also need to buy:

  • Paper Liners if you'd like to use them. (Bambinex liners fit the best.)
  • Nappy Bucket/Nappy Mesh to store the used ones in.

Even with buying these additional items the cost of using the Sandys will work out less than you'd spend on disposables!

Sizing & Fabric

The Sandys XS newborn nappies are ideal for the early weeks when standard size 1 or Onesize nappies just seem a bit too big on a tiny newborn. The nappies are made of cotton which provides fantastic fast and secure absorbency with an average drying speed. They can also be tumbled dried if needed. Being a two part system you will get excellent containment.

Sandys XS officially fit from 6-12lbs . At a RRP price of 9.99 per nappy this makes buying Sandys XS a luxury most people can't justify for a nappy that will only last a few months.  However I think everybody should have the option of using newborn nappies which is why we offer a hire service.  They are more absrobent than muslins and require no folding. Motherease is a well known and trusted brand sold by The Nappy Lady for over 22 years so you're getting a quality nappy. The Sandys secure with poppers at the side. They are shaped nappies so they offer excellent containment and no folding required.

Extending The Hire Kit Period

Your hire kit period is for 3 calendar months from baby's birth. If you need to extend your kit beyond 3 calendar months we will try to accomodate this depending on the hire date of the family after you but this can't be promised. If the hire kit is able to be extended this is an additional £20 per calendar month. If the kit is returned late the extension fee will be automatically applied.

Care & Consideration

The Sandys Hire Kit will probably not be brand new but will be in a good, clean, sanitised and hygenic condition, washed at every return by The Nappy Lady.

We expect that returned Sandys will have been used and washed according to our guidelines but not damaged. We do expect some wear and tear of course. On the return of the nappies please do not worry if they are stained as this is common with newborn/breastfed poo. Stains are easily removed by drying them on the line (or even a window ledge) in the sun for a day or two. If any nappies are returned beyond use, the deposit or part of it may not be refunded to cover the cost of a replacement nappy.

Once hire kits are dispatched the hire fee will not be refunded in part or full in any circumstances other than in cases of stillbirth/SIDS. The deposit will be refunded in full on safe return of the hire kit.

Mother-ease Care Guide

Initial Wash

  • Add no more than 10-12 nappies to your washer & dryer in each initial wash. Remember to check your lint screen before each wash & dry.
  • Set your washing machine to a full wash cycle with a large size load for 10-12 nappies (smaller if less nappies). Use only HOT water.
  • Add your detergent - see detergent disclaimer.
  • Line dry or machine dry the diapers on a medium heat setting.

Regular washing

  • Be sure to wash your cloth nappies at least every other day. If the soiled nappies are stored longer, run them through the initial rinse cycle and toss back into your nappy pail. (Tip - you can add 1/2 oz of laundry detergent to the rinse cycle to start cleaning sooner.)
  • Use your washing machines normal wash cycle and set the water temperature to hot. Use a large load size (for 12-18 soiled nappies + covers) and add the detergent manufacturers recommended amount of detergent. Then let the machine take care of the rest!  (Tip - running the diapers through an extra rinse creates unnecessary wear and over the 2 1/2 years of use, you will reduce the longevity of your diapers). (Tip 2 - Select your washing machines Sanitary Cycle for even hotter water if you can.)
  • Once your nappies have finished the wash cycle, it's time to dry them. You can either line or machine dry them;

Line Drying - hang to dry in your basement or outside on the line. (Tip - Sun naturally removes stains. Even works on a cold, winters day as long as the sun is out

Machine Drying - Toss in your dryer on medium heat (low for covers). (Tip - Tossing line dried diapers into your dryer for a short cycle will fluff them up but tumbling action adds additional wear)

*Coloured diapers may bleed and should be washed accordingly

Mother-ease Warranty

Mother-ease offers a lifetime warranty on our Snaps and Elastics.
This warranty is for the reasonable lifetime of the diaper. This does not cover slight relaxing of elastics.

Mother-ease offers a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:
Sandys,  Fitted Diapers, One Size Fitted Diapers, Wizard Duo Inserts, Reusable Nursing Pads, Baby Wipes, Absorbent Liners and Wizard Boosters.

This covers product stitching, seams and fabric holes discovered immediately upon receipt of item. This does not include normal wear and tear, slight variances in snap placement, odour issues, pilling, leaks, staining, repelling and holes or tears in the fabric or loose stitching due to wash routine or regular use.

Mother-ease offers a 6-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:
Diaper covers, Wizard Uno's, Big Kid Training Pants and Bedwetter Pants.

This covers product stitching, seams, holes discovered upon arrival, and irregular deformity. This does not cover staining, fading, slight variances in snap placement, leaks, pilling, holes or tears in fabric or loose stitching that develop due to wash routine or regular use (items caught, torn or melted in the washer/dryer).

This warranty is available only to the original purchaser from the date of purchase.

All warranty is null and void when products containing harsh solvents such as hydrogen peroxide (oxygen bleach), sodium percarbonate or optical brighteners are used.

When washing your covers Mother-ease recommend you wash them in a mesh bag to keep them away from Velcro on your nappies and from getting caught in washing machine doors.  Always secure the Velcro on your wraps so they don't stick to the binding in the wash.
Please contact us if you think you have a faulty product and need to claim under the Mother-ease warranty. We will liaise with Mother-ease for you. Mother-ease will require any product to be returned or destroyed before a replacement.

The manufacturer may ask for proof of which detergent you have been using during the period you've had the item so we strongly recommend you keep your receipts you can prove you've been washing following the supplier's guidelines.  A photo of the detergent box and a photo of the detergent ingredients will be needed plus receipts of detergent purchases in the time you have owned the faulty nappies (usually 1 or 2 receipts showing purchases across the previous 6 months).  If you have bought Mother-ease's detergent through us during the time you've used the nappies please let us know and we'll have all your receipts already on record for you.

Mother-ease decision on any warranty claim is final.

We started using our Sandy’s nappy hire kit yesterday, when my LO was 5 days old, and it’s made such a difference at containing those poos and wees. No more 2 am outfit changes 🙂

Working well

The nappies are working really well with our 1week old, we didn't start straight away as unsure with his cord,(but them may just have been us, rather than the nappy!) Highly recommend reusables and especially hiring the first size, we have bigger nappies from previous child, but it feels great the start earlier this time.

Kit worked fantastically for us. It arrived early enough so that when our daughter was born unexpectedly at 36 weeks / 6lb2 we could use them straight away. Very easy to put on and straightforward to wash. I loved the simplicity of the design. We used Bambinex fleece liners to increase the absorbency. By the time our daughter was 11lb we were starting to look for her big girl nappies but this was an excellent introduction and a good service. Thanks

Perfect for the job

Does exactly what it says in the description: I never had a leak, nappy rash or any problems at all. I used them once my newbie had stopped pooing meconium and shes just about outgrown them now at 11 weeks. They arrived in good time, a couple of weeks before my due date. Also, they have completely converted me to Sandys as the poppers make fit completely fool proof and the absorbency means you don't have to worry if you end up changing at bit later than normal.

Great kit in perfect condition no stains or smells. They fitted beautifully from day 1 of our 7.2lbs baby. The kit arrived 5 weeks before my due date which was lucky as baby arrived 3 weeks early so we still had time to learn how to use it before baby arrived. Very simple to use and we've gone on to buy more Sandys in the bigger size as they worked so well for us. Great idea Nappy Lady!

Absolutely loved hiring this kit. The nappies were amazing quality and i was lucky enough to be the first hirer for a brand new kit. They were soft, super absorbent and very adjustable. We used them with bambinex paper liners but now i'm using fleece liners on my bigger nappies. We fell in love with the Motherease airflow wraps which came in the kit, so soft and beautiful prints. A great starter kit which has got us hooked on cloth.

I like the idea but in practise it didn't work

Trying to be more environmentally friendly with reusable nappies however found these gave my daughter nappy rash within the first week of using them. Tried changing more regularly, tried using disposables inbetween reusable uses but gave up in order to clear the rash up. We even missed that she'd picked up thrush aswell.
Glad we rented before buying any. Not sure why the wraps have to be horrendous colours and patterns.

Response:

Sorry you didn't get on with the hire kit, sounds like something wasn't going quite right for you but we're always on hand to try and help sort issues out such as change routine, washing. You had a brand new kit as well. sorry you didn't like the colour and prints we try to send a mixture of unisex colours from the most popular ranges rather than just plain white.
