La Petite Ourse Pocket Nappy Overview

The La Petite Ourse pocket nappy is an economical, budget friendly but good quality one size cloth nappy that comes in a wide range of adorable designs.

La Petite Ourse (LPO) pocket nappy offers lots of fit adjustment at the waist and the length. It's a generous sized nappy allowing it to fit chubbier and taller babies for longer.

The pocket nappies has double pocket opening with an opening at the front and another at the back. The double pocket opening allows you ease of access to position your inserts just where you'd like them.  The multi-opening is very helpful if you like to fold one of your inserts to give greater absorbency at one point e.g. at the front for a boy as you have greater ease access to the pocket than some other pocket nappies.

Each opening into the pocket is covered by a separate flap, a bit like an envelope closure so that the inserts can't work their way out while they nappy is being worn.

When you buy a La Petite Ourse pocket nappy it comes with two bamboo inserts included in the price. If you have a heavy wetter you can buy additional boosters which The Nappy Lady sells separately. The pocket of the nappy is created by using a stay dry lining helps wick moisture away from the babys bottoms keeping baby feeling drier. The stay dry lining is quick drying and you will find the shell will dry quicker than the inserts. For this reason some families like to have spare inserts so they can use the shell again while the original inserts are still drying.

If you prefer not to stuff your nappy consider the La Petite Ourse All In One Nappy instead.

La Petite Ourse pocket nappy has an internal double gusset which can help improve poo containment and gives you superior protection against leaks.  Some people swear by a double gusset whereas many find it doesn't make any difference to containment and find that poo gets stuck into the gusset making cleaning more awkward.  If you'd prefer you can use paper liners inside the nappy to help keep the liner and gusset cleaner, the Bambinex paper liner is the best option.

The nappy comes with a tab inside for you to record their name which is ideal if you use these nappies for childcare.

Sizing

The La Petite Ourse Nappy fits from 5-16kg (10-35lbs) . It is a one size nappy that fits almost from birth until potty training.

The waist fastens with poppers in my favourite vertical popper position. The vertical position holds the tabs firmly in place and minimises wing droop. There is also an additional waist popper on each side to further secure the front panel when the nappy is in the smaller width settings. The tabs also offer a cross over popper option for very narrow babies but this isn't often needed at 10lbs but the option is there.

The nappy length is altered by the 4 x 3 poppers on the front to offer you small, medium and long length and full length allowing, the nappies to grow with your baby.

How do I use it?

Each nappy comes with two bamboo/polyester inserts which following testing by LPO hold approx 177ml each. For a very young baby you would use just one insert and as they grow you will use both.  There is still room to add an additional booster should your child require further absorbency.

Before putting the soiled nappy into the bucket remember to remove the inserts from inside the nappy. This ensures when they are washed they get thoroughly cleaned and the water is spun out of them.

Many parents stuff their pocket nappies once the inserts are dry from the wash so that the nappies are ready to go just like a disposable.

The nappy is an everyday nappy but is not suitable for night time.

Nappy Fabric

The outer waterproof shell is made from 100% Polyester

Iinserts are made from 70% bamboo and 30% polyester.

Drying time for the inserts are average, bamboo fabric is a slow drying fabric but the polyester component really helps to increase the overall drying time.

Excellent containment and easy to use!

Absolutely love the La Petite Ourse Pocket Nappy, we have been using these more than any other nappy and love how easy the system is. It's also really nice to be able to boost absorbance as needed. So far, we have had absolutely no leaks, and previously had them frequently when using biodegradable nappies.

Great slim nappy!

These are a great nappy. I like the double gusset, the soft lining and the double opening in the pocket which makes stuffing them very easy. We have a small (~5kg) baby and they have a slim fit, currently only using one pad and they are great and reliable for when you need 3-4 hours, due to a miss timed nap/nappy change!
The outer is nice and soft. There is an extra solid popper so you know which is the centre of the nappy which makes doing up the correct popper easier!

My go to nappy

This has fast become my first grab nappy as I find it so reliable. I use the two inserts with one folded near the front to catch boy wees. The fit is lovely, the prints are fun and the whole thing feels premium. Very impressed and hope to increase my stash.

The fit of the nappy is great, nice and neat in all the right places. (Not sure on my baby's weight but I think she's relatively small & slim.) I love the double gusset and we haven't had any leaks yet. The inserts are quite big so there's good coverage and I've been mightily impressed with how much they hold, I quite like using them with some of our other nappies too!

Really impressed with this brand

I have a mixed stash of daytime nappies, and the ones I find myself reaching for the most tend to be Baba+Boo pocket nappies and Little Love Bum Everyday AIOs. I purchased two La Petite Ourse pocket nappies at the introductory offer price from TNL, and after a few weeks of using them I can genuinely say I'm very impressed with this brand.

First impressions were that the fabric feels extremely soft and seems very high quality. The stay dry top is more silky than fleecy which seems nicer next to a baby's bum. Much like the LLB nappies, LPO pockets have two waist poppers along the top, and then one for legs underneath. The result is the fit is trim and neat, one of the neatest-fitting pocket nappies I've used. The inserts are as absorbent as B+B ones, but much softer to the touch and thinner and narrower. There is a double gusset as you would expect. The gusset is quite narrow, I would say it is comparable to a Bluberry Simplex. This hasn't been an issue for us. The nappies only require two pre-washes, and I was amazed to get just over four hours out of one on the first wear! I would be lucky to get this with any other nappy in my stash! The pocket has an opening at both ends, which is useful as it means I can fold one of the inserts in half to provide more absorbency where my LO needs it in the nappy. It would be tricky to do this in a pocket nappy with only one opening! As the gusset is narrow, it does mean stuffing is a bit more fiddly than say B+B nappies. But the pay-off is a trimmer fit!

All in all, I'm really impressed and I think the price point is very fair. If you like Baba+Boo nappies but want something a tiny bit slimmer then this could be worth a try! Plus the selection of prints is lovely.
