These beautiful umbilical cord ties are made especially for us by Knots and Dots.  Each one is made of 100% cotton and is hand made in Somerset by Emmaly who also makes our bespoke Wool Nappy Covers.

What is a cord tie?
Cord ties are an alternative to the "modern traditional" plastic umbilical cord clamps usually used after childbirth.

So why should use consider using a cord tie?
Cord ties are  more comfortable for baby as they are soft and lightweight.  They are easier to move, don't get caught in baby's clothing and don't pull or strain at the cord stump.  They also look beautiful and unique just like your baby.  The cord area tends to dry up faster and you get less of that rotting smell as the cord dries up.  The cord often falls off quicker around 3-5 days.  Is it more comfortable for Mum, Dad and Baby during skin to skin time and feeding time as no hard plastic clip to rub or push on you.

The fabric of the umbilical cord tie is just like the fabric of baby's nappy or clothing. It should be clean but does not need to be sterile because the cord tie does not come into contact with baby's bloodstream or any open wound. If you do wish to steralise it boil the cord tie for a couple of minutes, lift out and place in a ziplock bag and keep in the freezer until the day of your baby's birth.

Design Options
We sell a variety of different designs with charms such as a duck or bunny or how about one for the animal for the Chinese year.  We offer designs for the Christmas baby or how about a rainbow for your precious "rainbow baby."

Just tell us what charm you'd like like and which colours and they lovely Emmaly will get making it for you - she likes a challenge she said!   Request your own includes one cord string, one charm of your choice plus the matching cord bracelet for Mum. 
If you have a more detailed request (such as a charm at each end) please let us know and we'll do our best to get it sorted for you with a little supplement for the extra charm. Lead time is 5-7 days on bespoke Cord Ties.
