Elemental Joy Pocket Nappy Overview

Elemental Joy One Size Pocket nappy is an incredibly economical system offering a highly cost effective nappy system designed for families on a budget but doesn't compromise on quality or safety.

The Elemental Joy is made by Cotton Babies the makers of the famous Bumgenius Freetime and Flip diapering system so you know you're in good hands with this nappy!

The Elemental Joy is sold separately WITHOUT inserts so if you already have spare inserts, old terry squares  etc from other nappies you can buy just the cover and save even more money.  We also sell the Elemental Joy inserts separately for amazing value price if you do need new inserts.

The Elemental Joy is a pocket nappy, the pocket is formed by a layer of fleece fully sewn in to form a pocket which you then stuff with an insert of your choice. The fleece layer is moisture wicking and keeps baby's skin dry. The level of absorbency will vary depending on what inserts you choose to use with it.

Key Features

• Cover accommodates any nappy insert for customised absorbency
• 3×3 snap down design adjusts the size to fit small-large sizes (approx 8-35+ pounds)
• Gentle elastic to prevent leaks
• Reliable waterproof outer cover
• Elemental Joy inserts sold separately.

Sizing

8-35lbs

Elemental Joy is a one size nappy which means it will fit most babies from early on to potty training. The Elemental Joy is easy to adjust in order to get a good fit. The nappy fit is altered using poppers to adjust the length and poppers to adjust the waist

How do I use it?

Before putting the soiled nappy into the bucket remember to remove the insert from inside the nappy. This ensures when they are washed they get thoroughly cleaned and the water is spun out of them. Due to the removable inserts the bumGenius is very quick drying and remains soft to the touch even when air-dried.

Many parents stuff their pocket nappies once the inserts are dry from the wash so that the nappies are ready to go just like a disposable.

Read our article for more information and photos on how to adjust one size nappies.

Fabric

100% Laminated Polyester, Exclusive of Trim.

Care

  • Wash up to 140F/60C with detergent.
  • No laundry additives, bleach or harsh stain removers
  • Tumble dry low or line dry.

Safety Standards - When cheap is too cheap!

You will find lots of cheap pocket nappies or "cloth diapers" on Ebay or Amazon at ridiculously low prices, but these are normally made abroad and may not meet UK/EU safety standards.

With Bumgenius Elemental Joys they are made by an internationally well known and trusted brand, with an unbeatable reputation.  Elemental Joy nappies conform to all UK/EU regulations and have the highest Oeko Teks safety certification. This means the poppers securely fastened to the nappies at the safety levels required for baby clothing. All parts of fabric production and product manufacturing are chemically safe and conform to the highest stipulated safety standards required for baby clothing. Are you sure that cheapy unbranded nappy offers your baby the same?

Very good nappy

Of all the nappies I have, this is my favorite. They work very well in my chubby baby, no leaks (and I often have leaks). They also dry very very fast so if you have enough inserts they are great.

We ordered these from the nappy lady as our main daytime nappy. They are great as they are much easier to stuff with a booster. They come out of the washing machine at 1200 spin almost dry and need an hour or so to dry flat without a dehumidifier.

I have bamboo squares that I stuff them with. Cotton two layer boosters, a Terry square, some cut out
and sewen towelling from a bathrobe. They wash very well and in my opinion don't need to be stripped wash. The brushed polyester on the inside remains soft and doesn't attract any fluff or dirt. It is a high quality pocket nappy.

These are very nice, good quality and easy to use pocket nappies. I use them with Little Lamb size 2 fold-up bamboo inserts or with the bamboo inserts that come with my Baba and Boo nappies. They fit well and we've never had a leak with these.

Joy is the perfect name for this Nappy

I really get a lot of joy from using this nappy on my daughter's bottom. I am shifting from the shaped bamboo nappies and enjoying the freedom of movement this lighter weight nappy gives her. So far no leaking either, so it's a joy all round.

Change bag essential
Rating:
29 July 2019  |

I have been really pleased with these nappies. They are the ones I most often grab now to put in my change bag as they are nice and easy to use and not to bulky either in the bag or on my baby. They also dry nice and fast. I was a little worried they might leak when I first saw them, but they have held in everything so far (when disposables have been leaking loads).

One of the best pocket nappies

Nice and slim, great fitting with loads of poppers for adjustment and very soft lining. Washes well. No leaks so far and my boy pees for England! Beautiful colours too. Great value for money. I use with just a microfibre insert plus hemp booster but intend to get the little lamb bamboo insert to make it last longer.

Great pocket nappy

We’re getting on well with the Elemental Joy. Even on a baby with big thighs, the fit is good because of the double poppers. The fit is also less bulky than some cloth nappies, it all depends how many boosters baby needs and there seems to be lots of room for multiple boosters. These nappies dry really quickly too. I bought these for ease when going out or leaving baby with others and so far, so good. Thanks for the recommendation Nappy Lady.

Awesome all-rounder
Rating:
27 May 2019  |

These are the most useful nappies I own. They are slim fitting and can be stuffed with any insert, I particularly like little lamb bamboo inserts during the day and add a hemp booster for overnight. Makes for a slim, absorbent nappy. Bambinex liners work perfectly.

The best thing about these is they dry as fast as a wrap, so long as you have plenty of inserts you can practically use them straight out of the machine.

Response:

We don't recommend these for overnight as even with a hemp booster they aren't absorbent enough for most babies

Only down side is the poppers are a little bit tough- but I guess there’s no way my child can get it off !

Great daytime Nappies
Rating:
17 April 2019  |

These are another great diaper from BumGenius, we went for these as the all in ones are FANTASTIC but pricey...so we thought the pocket's would be good for the daytime use. They NEED a proper liner/booster in them. If you don't get this and use a light liner, they leak easily as they don't absorb much without a booster. Unfortunately we couldn't get any of the BumGenius boosters as they are out of stock so we were forced to grab some bamboo ones off Ebay. However the Bambinex paper liners are PERFECT for this nappy as the disposable liner - they fit like a glove on top and we will be using those throughout now. So once you've got a booster in the pocket part and a bambinex on top - you are looking a good nappy! Please note we've had our son in these since around 5/6 weeks old and at first we just had him in the all in ones (from 2/3 weeks old). Also forgot to mention the best thing about these.....they are so fast to dry (especially compared to the all in ones)....I put them on a low heat in the tumble and voila!

Pleased with these. They fit nicely and wash well. I already had a load of inserts so it was great to be able to buy just the nappy shell. Like others have mentioned I have some problems with the poppers. I'm finding them a little difficult to do up. Overall very happy with these.

I have used a different brand of pocket nappy before but these are so much softer. It makes them easier to fit as even with multiple inserts they don’t rub my little boys legs like the previous brand. Great value and after at least ten washes still look and feel like they did when they arrived.

Easy to use and comfortable for baby
Rating:
17 February 2019  |

We’re new to real nappies, and started using these when my daughter was 6 weeks old (approx. 9lbs) prior to that these would have been too big as we started on the smallest fit.
A pretty and quite slim nappy when on, it still allows baby a good range of movement and doesn’t have too much bulk between the legs. The poppers on the front allow for easy adjustment and a great fit. The pocket system is easy to use and the inserts fill the wrap providing great coverage.
The wraps wash well and dry very quickly for re-use. Will be recommending these to friends!

Bought these after doing the nappy lady advice survey. We've been using prefolds and wraps for our little one since birth. He's now 6 months and on the move. As changing time is becoming a bit of a battle ground I wanted something quick to put on, good value and quick drying.
These nappies work a treat and whats best is we can use our prefold stash as the inserts. The fleece lining wicks wee away from the skin really well. When I change him sometimes it doesn't even feel wet yet the insert is soaked!!!
highly recommended.

Economical nappy, difficult to close poppers
Rating:
17 August 2018  |

I like the design of this nappy and it is useful for us as we already have other boosters. The nappy dries really quickly, which is handy. I find the poppers very difficult to do up though - I don't know if this will improve when we've used it a bit more as we have an older bumgenius nappy with poppers which is much easier.

Bumgenius nappies
Rating:
14 August 2018  |

I love this little pocket nappy. We use the eyelet inserts along with a booster for each use. The fit is wonderful and drying time for these pocket nappies are by far the quickest in our stash.
We use bumgenius freetime all in ones and elemental pockets for day time and the elemental all in one for nighttime.
We have other makes as spares and some terries and wraps for home days but bumgenius has been the brand for us.

The quality, fit and high standard of this brand work perfectly for us. We have never had a leak on any of our day or nighttime nappies and most baby clothing brands fit with a vest extender needed only once or twice. They are easy to wash and quick to dry (with the exception of the elemental all in one which takes much longer to dry, we have a rotation of night nappies to allow for drying time).

If you're looking for a good quality reliable pocket nappy look no further. And the price of this pocket nappy is amazing!

No leaks, nice slim, pretty pocket nappy

This nappy is great value for money. I generally use 2 parters but I like having the odd pocket nappy in the bag for emergencies. This one is lovely and slim and fits very comfortably on my LO. The design is simple but pretty. Absorbency has been fine - 3 hours minimum on my 3 month old but I haven't tried it any longer than this.

You can tell the fabrics in this are better quality than the cheaper pockets we own, the fleece stays lovely and smooth after washing and the edges are all bound nicely. For some reason I sometimes struggle to do the poppers up on this one, but that's probably just me!

Decent nappy, not too bulky and the outer material isn't stiff like some waterproof coatings are. I bought for my 8 week old, who was probably a little small for them at the time (and he is a smallish baby), they are fitting better as he is growing bigger. Like all pocket nappies I find they provide much better protection from leaks than throwaway ones.

Love the nappies
Rating:
06 July 2018  |

Love these nappies. The lining is soft and stay dry. Dries so quickly, these nappies. Not that bulky. A bit difficult to manage if I get Poo on the nappy, since I tend to wash them by hand instead of leaving it for the washing machine. The insert has to be pulled out and washed as well if you wash it mm by hand.
Fit is quite flexible. One can do it in a number of ways, whatever fits the child right

I’m really happy that we persevered with cloth and gained more advice from The Nappy Lady.
I find these nappies really easy to use, comfortable for my little boy and my conscience is a lot easier now I’m not using disposables.
Love the colours in this range too!

I use the V5 bumgenius nappies and decided to add some of these to my existing lot. Fantastic item for the price, specifically find them fab for night time as they are not a bulky nappy and so with the larger insert for night it looks a far more comfortable fit.
Only negative I'd say is they could do with the flap over the pocket opening to keep everything on the nappy cloth. All in all of recommend these.

I'm converted to pockets
Rating:
30 April 2018  |

Initially I bought a few to try out because I needed a simple and not too expensive solution for upcoming childcare arrangements.
I have since stocked up and use them as our main day nappy.
I've been using them now for over 5 months, washing every 2 days and I'm impressed with how good the fleece still looks. We've not had any poonamies (despite weaning and teething phase) and no marking from the elastics.
Absorbency really depends on inserts, so I'm still experimenting with that to get slightly longer out of them..
For the price, an excellent nappy - really good value!

Great cheap nappy

11 April 2018  |

A good cheap nappy. A good option for those on a budget.
Only thing i didn't like, was that I found the nappy quite ridged when doing up and not as stretchy as others, but was still able to get a good fit. And still soft.
I used the inserts you can buy separately with these and hemp ones too.

Great wraps, so easy to use. I stuffed mine with my tots bots peenut pads but you could basically use anything as long as it's absorbent! First time in poppers for us and it's a bit fiddly when you're used to velcro but it seems a bit more secure on my 18 month old. Colour is lovely and it washes well (sometimes I've not even bothered washing - a rinse in the sink will do, it dries quickly and can be stuffed again with a new nappy pad, like you do for the Peenut wrap). Great value for money, especially when compared with other brands. Wish I'd used these from the start! Might invest in a couple more for baby #2.

23 February 2018  |

Found they are of good quality and soft around my baby's legs. I like using pocket nappies but buying new ones can be quite expensive. Since I have a lot of muslins and leftover inserts given by friends, this is a more affordable option for me to increase my nappy stash. However, I'm not too fond of the car designs and prefer the block colours instead but that is merely an aesthetic preference issue. Overall I am happy with the product and would definitely recommend

Great budget pocket nappy
Rating:
24 December 2017  |

I bought this to try as already have some freetimes and an elemental. In my experience, Bumgenius nappies are high quality, easy to wash and use. This nappy has very similar leg elastics to the elemental all in one. I got the green car print which I really like.

This nappy would be perfect for someone who can’t deal with the long drying times required for elemental all in ones, is perhaps on a lower budget or needs to add more boosters etc for a heavy wetter. Seems quite long like the other elemental so ideal for longer babies/fall toddlers.

I use this with the Birdseye folding inserts available separately- and the fact these need folding is the only downside for me. My husband wouldn’t be able to do it though I guess it’s good I can fold extra at the front as I have a boy. Might be better to just use other pocket inserts if unsure on folding. I condsidered giving 4 stars due to the fact this isn’t as simple as an all in one BUT have given 5 anyway as it’s good value for money and still a versatile option.

Bumgenius Elemental Joy
Rating:
20 December 2017  |

These nappies are great. We had so many left over inserts from very old worn out bumgenius version 5's that were just sitting there not being used. Now we have a way to use them and make new nappies very cheaply. The elastic around the legs is different from the version 5's, but seems much softer and nicer. The poppers are good too, as our velcro always wore out too quickly and needed replacing.
